Monitorship of Education Management Corp.'s debt forgiveness compliance
Provided verification of eligibility requirements and statistical sampling strategy to assist the Settlement Administrator with its monitorship of Education Management Corporation’s (EDMC) implementation of a debt forgiveness program, with a stated goal to ensure as rigorously as reasonably possible that all students entitled to receive forgiveness of their EDMC debts actually received the forgiveness. In 2015, EDMC entered into Consent Judgments with 39 states and the District of Columbia to resolve consumer protection claims arising out of its recruiting and enrollment practices. At that time, EDMC was one of the largest for-profit providers of post-secondary education in the country. The Settlement Administrator’s Third Report describes Bates White’s involvement and is the final report in connection with the monitorship.
