Vertical and complementary products mergers are among the most difficult and controversial areas of antitrust. Developing guidelines for such mergers is challenging.

On July 1, Partner Leslie Marx will participate as a panelist in the webinar “Vertical Mergers: Enforcement Developments and Guidelines.” Panelists, including experts from both the United States and Europe, will discuss the issues in the context of the recently proposed Vertical Merger Guidelines in the United States and the existing Guidance on the Assessment of Non-Horizontal Mergers in the European Union. Discussion topics will include the appropriate scope for guidelines in light of the economics literature and policy experience, similarities and differences between the approaches taken in the United States and Europe, and the application of guidelines in practice.

To facilitate debates on important competition policy issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, and given the postponement for 2021 of this year’s CRESSE Conference, CRESSE organized online Special Policy Sessions in collaboration with Competition Policy International. This webinar is one of those sessions.
