In August 2025, Veeva Systems Inc. and IQVIA Inc. settled their eight-year legal battle and announced long-term global clinical and commercial partnerships that enable customers to use Veeva and IQVIA data, software, and solutions together.
IQVIA originally filed a lawsuit in 2017 alleging that Veeva “used unauthorized access to proprietary IQVIA data” to improve its own products. Veeva filed a countersuit alleging that IQVIA abused monopoly power to restrict customers’ ability to use its proprietary data with their own software.
In 2018, Veeva retained a Bates White expert to analyze issues of market definition, market power, theory of harm, and competitive effects. The expert submitted two reports focusing on Veeva’s claims of anticompetitive tying and monopoly maintenance by IQVIA.
As part of the resolution, the companies entered into master data and software third-party access agreements that will allow customers to use IQVIA or Veeva data with each other’s software and services. Under terms of the settlement agreement, neither party is required to pay any damages, and both have agreed to dismiss all claims and counterclaims with prejudice.
The team supporting the expert included Morgan Ackley, Lauren Christensen, Taylor Duncan, Chuhang Geissler, JC Gozzi, Anirudh Jayanti, Joe Kinter, Dave Lorenz, Anna Meyendorff, Annie Olecki, Aparna Sengupta, Mathis Wagner, Zenon Zabinski, Jeff Zhang, and Xunjie Zheng.
