What sets us apart
When Hal White started teaching graduate school, Charley Bates was one of his students. They became dear friends. Years later, the two men sat down at a DC restaurant to discuss starting an economic consulting firm and formed a vision for what it would look like—a company that provided high-end quantitative skills to solve complex problems in legal cases. They identified three other economists to join their new venture and founded the firm in 1999.
Shortly thereafter, Hal and Charley drafted a set of strategic guardrails and guiding principles that reflected their aspirations and vision. It was a business model that emphasized a culture of recognizing people’s contributions as much as their ability to work collaboratively. To this day, the firm is governed by its original constitutional framework, based on a set of principles and values that drive the firm’s strategy, approach, and culture.
