Academy Mortgage Corp., Christopher Bennett was retained as a testifying expert on behalf of the whistleblower who alleged that Academy violated the False Claims Act by improperly originating and certifying mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration. Dr. Bennett developed a framework for calculating damages that relied on his expertise in statistical sampling. After Dr. Bennett submitted his report and provided deposition testimony, the Department of Justice announced that Academy will pay $38.5 million to resolve the claims.
