Bates White study provides support for the merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines
The $17.7 billion merger of Delta Air Lines Inc. and Northwest Airlines Corp. closed on October 29, 2008, hours after the US Department of Justice announced termination of its six-month investigation of the proposed merger. Bates White supported Hunton & Williams LLP, O’Melveny & Myers LLP, and Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP in their representation of Delta and Northwest during the DOJ investigation. Bates White provided economic analysis and advice on a range of issues that arose during the investigation, including competitive effects, consumer benefits from improved service quality, and cost savings. Bates White’s analysis, which was presented to the Department of Justice, supported the DOJ’s conclusion that the Delta-Northwest merger “is not likely to substantially lessen competition.”
