Alejandra Montoya-Agudelo, PhD

Alejandra Montoya-Agudelo received her PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, specializing in labor economics and applied econometrics. Alejandra’s research examines policies and educational choices in higher education using causal-inference and structural econometric techniques. In her dissertation, Alejandra implemented a dynamic model to analyze the role of uncertainty and multiple abilities in determining postsecondary schooling decisions. She has also studied topics related to corruption and illegal markets, with her findings published in peer-reviewed journals such as World Development and Kyklos. During her doctoral studies, Alejandra taught an undergraduate course in cost-benefit analysis, while also serving as a teaching assistant for courses in microeconomics, econometrics, and inequality.
