Glenn George, Carolyn Berry, and Anna Meyendorff speak at Washington Arbitration Week 2026
Three Bates White experts will participate during the 7th edition of Washington Arbitration Week.
October 26
- 11:55 am–1:10 pm (ET): Glenn George will be a panelist in the session “To Infinity and Compliance: AI, Ethics, and Dispute Resolution in the Space Economy.” Dr. George and his co-panelists will consider the growing use of arbitration instead of domestic courts to resolve disputes involving commercial actors, public interests, space-related activity, and artificial intelligence. They’ll examine how authority to arbitrate may be determined when incidents occur beyond Earth, who may be accountable for harm caused by autonomous technology, and whether existing legal systems are capable of handling such questions.
Dr. George’s fellow speakers include Pamela Meredith of Space Law Practice Group and KMA Zuckert LLP, Petr Polášek of White & Case LLP, and Dr. Gershon Hasin of Fietta LLP. Diego Durán de la Vega of Hughes Hubbard & Reed will moderate. Bates White is pleased to host this session at our office and to serve lunch afterward.
October 29
- 10:25–11:40 am (ET): Carolyn Berry will be a panelist in the session “Emerging Sectors and Digital Assets: Data Centers, IP, Blockchain, Crypto, and Enforcement Challenges.” Dr. Berry and her co-panelists will explore enforcement and dispute-related risks arising from AI and blockchain systems, patent and other IP rights, decentralized finance, and investment in digital assets. They’ll also discuss the Unified Patent Court’s Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre.
Dr. Berry’s fellow speakers include Tara Singh of FTI and June Casalmir of Apkudo. Robert Reyes Landicho of Steptoe LLP will moderate.
- 12:00–1:15 pm (ET): Anna Meyendorff will be a panelist in the session: “Mining in International Arbitration: Africa, Latin America, Resource Nationalism and Quantum Challenges.” Dr. Meyendorff and her co-panelists will explore how resource nationalism, shaped by an increasingly transactional global environment, is unfolding in Africa and Latin America and influencing the design and implementation of stabilization and investment-protection provisions. It further considers tribunals’ approaches to damages in mining cases marked by fluctuating commodity markets, extended project timelines, and disputed valuation issues.
Dr. Meyendorff’s fellow speakers include Shayda Vance of Hughes Hubbard & Reed, Pablo D. López Zadicoff of Compass Lexecon, Florin Dorobantu of The Brattle Group, and Tatiana Sainati of Wiley Rein LLP. Jamie Hagerbaumer of The Brattle Group will moderate.
