In 2021, Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health announced a $13 billion integration plan to form Corewell Health. The non-profit merger would result in the largest health system in Michigan, with 22 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched an inquiry into the transaction. On behalf of the merging parties, Cory Capps and Kevin Pflum analyzed the potential competitive effects of the integration. Their analyses addressed concerns related to possible cross-market effects and vertical effects. Drs. Capps and Pflum submitted white papers to the FTC that showed the combination was unlikely to harm competition and presented their findings to the agency. They also assisted the parties with Second Request compliance. The FTC allowed the transaction to close in 2022.

The team assisting Drs. Capps and Pflum included Anirudh Jayanti, Alice Ndikumana, Lucy Nguyen, Samantha Stewart, Tetyana Shvydko, Zenon Zabinski.
