Summary

Valentin Verdier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. Valentin earned his doctorate from Michigan State University and has taught at Chapel Hill since 2014. The courses he teaches there include econometrics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; he recently won the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching award.

Valentin’s research interests encompass panel data econometrics and applied topics in environmental and energy economics, economics of education, mechanism design, and development economics. He has developed new econometric methods to meet the needs of frontier empirical research in economics. In his research, Valentin has generated new empirical results across a range of economic areas, including education policy, private and public interventions in electricity consumption and generation, agricultural policies, and the design of mechanisms to allocate public goods efficiently. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as the Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Journal of Econometrics. Valentin has also served as co-editor of Annals of Economics and Statistics and is currently Associate Editor at Econometrics Reviews.
