Bates White and Oxera announce new collaboration
The collaboration brings together merger and competition expertise across Europe and the United States to support clients on complex global transactions.
Bates White Economic Consulting and Oxera Consulting LLP are excited to announce a new collaboration that will combine their complementary merger and competition economics expertise across Europe and the United States.
In global matters where both firms are retained, teams will coordinate, share information, and deploy their combined understanding of European and US competition policy. For clients, this means easier access to the right expertise, greater continuity across jurisdictions, and a more connected approach to economic analysis in complex international transactions.
Oxera has an established position in European merger control, advising clients on major transactions before the European Commission, the UK Competition and Markets Authority, and competition authorities across Europe. Bates White brings extensive experience of US antitrust and merger matters, including work before and on behalf of the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission across a wide variety of industries.
Giulio Federico, Partner at Oxera, said:
“Many of our clients’ transactions are reviewed by competition authorities both in Europe and the US. They need deep expertise in the individual markets and regulatory environments, but they also need their economists to work effectively and seamlessly across jurisdictions.
Our collaboration with Bates White delivers both. We know and respect the quality of their work in the US, and our partnership will make it much easier for clients to access the right expertise and receive a coordinated service across Europe and the US.”
Cory Capps, Partner at Bates White, said:
“Oxera is a great partner for this endeavour. They have an outstanding competition economics practice and a depth of experience across European markets that complements Bates White’s expertise in the United States. As just one example, as part of the EC’s review of its merger guidelines, Oxera recently prepared a major Study on Dynamic Effects of Mergers.
Ultimately, this partnership will enable our teams to collaborate from the outset and to provide clients with access to that combined expertise when their matters extend globally. This will provide tangible benefits on some of the most complex and high-stakes international transactions.”
Bates White and Oxera will remain independent firms, retaining their own identities and the flexibility to work independently. The collaboration provides an opportunity for closer work where the firms’ combined expertise can deliver additional value for clients.
The announcement comes ahead of Bates White’s annual Antitrust Symposium in Washington, DC, on September 24, where Oxera Partners Avantika Chowdhury and Giulio Federico will both speak.
