Cory Capps joins Brookings panel on payer-provider vertical integration

Large insurers have been increasingly acquiring physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and other provider entities. Proponents argue that this can streamline care coordination and offer lower-cost services. Skeptics warn that it may limit rival insurers’ network access, among other things, and ultimately raise questions for patients, employers, and taxpayers alike.

In the panel “Payer-Provider Vertical Integration: Trends, Tradeoffs, and Policy Options,” Partner Cory Capps joins other experts to assess the evidence on payer-provider vertical integration. He and his co-panelists will examine the potential efficiencies and risks of payer-led integration and outline concrete policy options.

The panel also includes Robert Tyler Braun of Cornell Medical College, Martin Gaynor of Carnegie Mellon University, and Aditi Mehta of the Department of Justice. Loren Adler, of the Center on Health Policy, will moderate.
