In 2022, Texas sued Google, LLC, alleging that Google collected millions of biometric identifiers from Texans through its products and services without Texans’ informed consent and exploited Texans’ personal information “for its own commercial interests.” The State of Texas retained David DeRamus to provide expert economic testimony related to Google's alleged conduct. Google agreed to settle the Texas biometrics case and other privacy claims for $1.375 billion.
Dr. DeRamus was also the economic expert on behalf of Texas in Texas v. Meta Platforms, where Texas brought similar charges as in this case and obtained a $1.4 billion settlement from Meta.
