Ilan Guedj was retained by plaintiff in a securities class action involving mutual funds. The mutual funds were offering products designed to provide returns that were a multiple of an index, or multiples of an inverse of an index. The plaintiff alleged that the disclosure of these products did not provide adequate information on the risk involved with such products and the viability of holding these instruments for a long period. Dr. Guedj estimated the actual risk from long-term holding of these instruments and calculated damages. The case settled.
