Bates White provides independent services for two utilities

August 2017

Bates White was retained by the Oregon Public Utility Commission as the Independent Evaluator for potential requests for proposals (RFP) from Portland General Electric (PGE). The firm will provide comments on the RFP design and review the qualification and selection of offers. PGE intends to seek proposals to provide wind-powered renewable energy and generating capacity.

In addition, the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board retained Bates White to conduct an audit of Nova Scotia Power’s fuel and energy procurement, fuel management, and generation production. Nova Scotia Power is an electric utility that provides 95% of electricity to its province. The purpose of the audit is to determine if the utility has been prudent in its fuel and energy transactions over the review period, including those involving the utility’s affiliates. Work will begin in August 2017; an audit report is due in July 2018, and a hearing will be held that fall.
