Bates White serves as an external advisor to the Board of Directors of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), one of 6 US regional transmission organizations, which operates the transmission grid and administers power markets for 18 million customers in 14 states. The firm provides an annual strategic planning report called the Looking Forward Report, which covers topics such as distributed energy resources and the changing utility model, jurisdictional issues in the electricity industry, power markets and the early retirement of existing nuclear generation, and electric vehicles, among other things. On April 25, Vincent Musco, the report’s primary author, presented the findings of the 2017 report to the SPP Board of Directors and Members Committee in Tulsa. Co-author Craig Roach joined him.
