Charles (Chip) Miller′s career has spanned both economics and the law. Over the course of more than 21 years practicing law, he specialized in developing proof-of-economic damages (including expert evidence), evaluating clients′ litigation exposure, analyzing insurance coverage and financing issues, and developing large-scale settlement programs.

Before joining Bates White, Dr. Miller was a partner with Dickstein Shapiro in Washington DC, where he worked from 1987 to 2008. Before becoming an attorney, he was an assistant professor at The Johns Hopkins University. In other positions, he developed mathematical and econometric software and produced macroeconomic forecasts and simulations.

  • Serving as the lead consulting expert to a large coalition of opt-out plaintiffs in a chemical industry price-fixing matter. Submitted expert declaration. Performing damage estimation, litigation support, and settlement support.
  • Serving as the lead consulting expert to a large coalition of opt-out plaintiffs in a consumer electronic component price-fixing matter. Performing damage estimation, litigation support, and settlement support.
  • Served as lead consulting expert for opt-out plaintiffs in In re electrical Carbon Products Antitrust Litigation. Supported testifying expert. Provided damage estimation, litigation support, and settlement support.
  • In In re Linerboard Antitrust Litigation, managed defensive discovery, expert discovery, and expert evidence. Handled Daubert motions. The litigation involved claims for overcharges resulting from a cartel of integrated paper products companies.
  • In In re Methionine Antitrust Litigation, handled Daubert motions and expert evidence on damages and liability. The case involved claims for overcharges resulting from the price-fixing of methionine, an ingredient in animal feed.
  • In In re Vitamins Antitrust Litigation, managed defensive discovery, expert evidence on damages and liability, and expert discovery. Handled Daubert motions. The case involved claims for overcharges resulting from the price-fixing of bulk vitamins used as ingredients in food, beverages, and animal feed.
  • On behalf of class plaintiffs in Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Litigation, developed evidence of economic losses, including expert proof. Valued losses of groups of plaintiffs for allocation purposes, served as the principal author and designer of plaintiffs′ class distribution plans, and negotiated and/or litigated damage valuations for hundreds of businesses.
