Matthew E. Raiff is a founding member of Bates White, LLC.
He oversees
numerous matters for some of the firm’s largest clients, including E.I.
du Pont de Nemours and Company, Crowell & Moring LLP, and Dickstein Shapiro
LLP.
Dr. Raiff serves as an expert economic consultant on matters
primarily involving alleged anticompetitive conduct. With significant experience
both in defense and plaintiff matters, he specializes in partnering with clients
to resolve civil exposure for both class and opt-out litigation in direct and
indirect cartel matters, devising settlement strategies, and assisting with
government investigations. In the historic antitrust case,

Antitrust Litigation, he served as the lead consulting economist during
all phases of the litigation. Dr. Raiff has published on various topics related
to auctions, procurements, and collusion.
Under Dr. Raiff’s leadership, Bates White has expanded the depth and
breadth of its Antitrust Practice to include significant merger and
monopolization engagements. In addition, Dr. Raiff has guided the development
of the annual Bates White Antitrust Conference, bringing together leading
members of the academic community to share research relevant to antitrust in
the areas of econometrics, industrial organization, and microeconomic theory.
Dr. Raiff has also played a key role in expanding the firm’s team of
noted economists and academic affiliates, and he has been instrumental in
creating an exclusive partnership with the European School of Management and
Technology (ESMT). Bates White and ESMT Competition Analysis, ESMT’s
subsidiary consulting firm, work together to provide consulting services on
matters arising from mergers and other antitrust issues within the United
States and Europe.
Prior to joining Bates White, Dr. Raiff served as an Associate at A.T.
Kearney. He was also a Postdoctoral Economist at The Pennsylvania State
University and an Instructor in the Department of Economics at Duke
University.
