Boris J. Steffen to speak at Platts 3rd Annual Utility M&A conference
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 21, 2006—Boris J. Steffen, Partner at Bates White,
will speak at Platts 3rd Annual Utility M&A conference in New York, N.Y.
to be held June 26–27. Mr. Steffen, who provided analysis and expert testimony
in the proposed merger proceedings of Exelon Corporation and Public Service and
Electric Gas Company, will participate on a panel that will examine M&A transaction
drivers and trends.
The panel will consider how companies look at the prospects for value creation in mergers;
the transaction drivers (scale, operations, regulation, geography, location of headquarters,
employees); and commitments to rates, service quality, and customer service. The panel will also
explore the following questions: “Is improvement from the status quo required, or just
‘no harm?’” and “Will 2006 see a boom of M&A activity?”
Bates White is a sponsor of the conference, which will also include panels on the following topics: repeal of PUCHA,
the role of private equity, hedge fund strategy, restructuring deals, international
investment, and corporate mergers.
