David Dranove, Professor of Health Industry Management at Northwestern University’s
Kellogg School, joins Bates White as Academic Affiliate
WASHINGTON DC, July 14, 2008—David Dranove, Ph.D.
joins Bates White’s Health Care Practice as an Academic
Affiliate. Dr. Dranove specializes in medical and pharmaceutical economics, industrial organization,
business strategy, and cost-benefit analysis. He is the Walter McNerney Distinguished Professor of
Health Industry Management and Professor of Management and Strategy at Northwestern
University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Dr. Dranove has served as an expert economist for various state antitrust agencies and private
law firms. He has authored expert reports and given deposition testimony in several health care
antitrust cases, including testifying in certificate-of-need (CON) regulatory hearings. On
behalf of the FTC, Dr. Dranove submitted an expert report in the agency’s challenge of
Rite Aid Corporation’s bid to take over Revco D.S., Inc. Dr. Dranove also submitted an
expert report and deposition evidence on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Allegheny
Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) bankruptcy case. In addition to his testifying
work, Dr. Dranove provides strategic management consulting to numerous provider, insurer, and
supplier organizations in the healthcare industry.
Dr. Dranove is the author of five books and a myriad of articles on topics related to the
economics of health care. He is a member of the editorial boards for the following publications:
Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Medical Practice Management,
Health Services Research, and RAND Journal of Economics. Dr. Dranove has
received more than 20 research grants since 1984 and is the recipient of numerous research and
teaching accolades, including the John D. Thompson Prize in Health Services Research.
Dr. Dranove has been on the faculty at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of
Management for more than 15 years and teaches courses on health care economics and empirical
methods in strategy. He is also the Director of Kellogg’s Center for Health Industry
Market Economics. Prior to joining Kellogg, Dr. Dranove was Associate Professor of Business
Economics at the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.
