Dr. Marius Schwartz, Georgetown University Professor of Economics, joins Bates White, LLC, as Academic Affiliate
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 16, 2007—Marius Schwartz is a senior
Academic Affiliate in the Antitrust Practice and a Professor of Economics at
Georgetown University. He specializes in the application of microeconomics to competition and regulation and has served
as an expert economist in numerous antitrust and regulatory matters involving mergers, horizontal restraints, and
exclusionary conduct.
Dr. Schwartz held various positions at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice including Economics
Director of Enforcement during the period 1998–2000 and, for six months, Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney
General for Economics. Previously, he served as Senior Economist at the President’s Council of Economic
Advisors. He has been a consultant to numerous private companies and governmental organizations and is a frequent
speaker at conferences and seminars in the United States and other countries. Dr. Schwartz has testified as an expert
in antitrust cases, and he has published widely on topics related to competition policy—especially in the
telecommunications industry.
