Bates White, LLC, and ESMT European School of Management and Technology form international antitrust partnership
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 3, 2007—Bates White, LLC, and ESMT European School of
Management and Technology, based in Berlin, Germany, have entered into an exclusive
cooperative partnership to provide antitrust services in the United States and the
European Union.
Bates White’s partnership with ESMT includes collaboration with the
institution’s subsidiary consulting firm, ESMT Competition Analysis, that
provides antitrust litigation services. Through the synergies of this alliance,
Bates White and ESMT Competition Analysis will enhance their capabilities and
opportunities to address clients’ concerns arising in international and
transnational antitrust matters within the purview of U.S. and EU regulatory
authorities.
Dr. Lars-Hendrik Röller, President and Chairman of ESMT, will play a key role
in the collaboration and will work closely with Bates White’s antitrust
leadership in the United States. The European Commission appointed Dr. Röller
as its first Chief Competition Economist, from which position he guided a dramatic
increase in the focus of antitrust investigations on rigorous economic analysis. He
served in this post until 2006. Dr. Röller is an internationally respected
scholar who has published widely on competition policy, industrial organization,
and transnational mergers. He is also Professor of Economics and Chair of the
Institute of Industrial Economics at Humboldt University in Berlin, and President
of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE). Dr.
Röller received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
