Dr. Robert C. Marshall to speak on postmerger collusion at Fordham Competition Law Institute’s annual conference
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 6, 2006—Dr. Robert C. Marshall, Bates White Partner and Head of the Department of Economics at The Pennsylvania State University, will discuss “Coordinated Effects in Merger Review: Quantifying the Incentives to Collude,” at the Fordham Competition Law Institute’s 33rd Annual Conference on International Antitrust Law & Policy to be held September 14-15, 2006, in New York City.
Dr. Marshall’s talk will be based on a paper he wrote with Dr. Steven P. Schulenberg, Bates White Principal, William E. Kovacic, Federal Trade Commissioner, and Dr. Leslie M. Marx, Associate Professor of Economics, Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. Dr. Marshall’s presentation will explore an innovative approach to quantifying coordinated effects in mergers. The new approach makes it possible to identify which postmerger cartels will be of greatest concern to regulators and others, and it enables economists to quantify the effects of postmerger collusion on consumer surplus.
Dr. Marshall has published extensively in collusion and antitrust literature. He is codirector of the Center for the Study of Auctions, Procurements, and Competition Policy at The Pennsylvania State University.
