Drs. William J. Carrington and Karl N. Snow, labor economists, join
Bates White’s Labor and Employment Practice
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 2, 2006—Drs. William J. Carrington and Karl N. Snow recently joined Bates White as Principals in the Labor and Employment Group. Together they bring more than 30 years of experience in the economic analysis of employment issues to the firm, greatly enhancing Bates White’s capabilities in the labor and employment area.
At Bates White, Drs. Carrington and Snow will provide economic analyses on a full range of employment issues including the evaluation of claims of race, national origin, gender, and age discrimination in a wide variety of employment practices (for example, compensation, promotions, performance ratings, hiring, dismissals, training, and discipline). They will also provide analysis and advice in connection with consumer finance lending and underwriting practices, and analyze liability and damages in claims related to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and related state statutes.

Dr. Carrington has more than 15 years of experience working for government, in academia, and as an economic consultant. He has consulted on a wide range of employment issues, including many types of claims based on the FLSA and related state laws. He has testified before the Supreme Court of the State of New York and in administrative hearings in the State of Virginia, filed numerous reports with both state and federal courts, and provided deposition testimony in many cases. Dr. Carrington was Assistant Professor for eight years in the Department of Economics at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
Dr. Snow has more than 15 years of experience working in academia, in the investment banking and mortgage finance industries, and as an economic consultant specializing in labor and employment. He has also consulted on a wide range of employment issues, including many types of claims based on the FLSA and related state laws, and he has significant experience calculating economic damages and estimating the value of financial securities. He has submitted expert reports in federal court and worked with clients in a wide range of industries.
Dr. Snow taught courses and presented workshops on finance and economic topics at academic institutions in Europe and the United States. He held numerous academic posts including Assistant Professor of Economics, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah; Visiting Assistant Professor of Finance, Stockholm School of Economics, Stockholm, Sweden; Adjunct Professor of Finance, Johns Hopkins University; and Assistant Professor of Finance, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Kenan-Flagler Business School, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Prior to joining Bates White, both Drs. Carrington and Snow worked for Welch Consulting in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Carrington was Vice President and Dr. Snow was Senior Economist. Prior to that, Dr. Carrington worked as a Research Economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and as a Senior Associate with CRA International, both in Washington, D.C. Dr. Snow was Principal Economist at Freddie Mac and Director of UBS Investment Bank (formerly UBS Warburg), Financial Markets Education Division in Stamford, Connecticut.
