Dr. Jonathan A. Lesser to deliver presentation
on the economics of energy regulation
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 14, 2005—Bates White announces
that Dr. Jonathan Lesser will be speaking at the Law Seminars
International conference, "Electricity & Natural Gas
Regulation:
An Introduction," in Washington, D.C. March 17–18,
2005.
Dr. Lesser will lead a presentation titled, “The Economics
of Energy Regulation: Implications and Challenges for the Electric
and Natural Gas Industries.” He will discuss basic economic
principles and their influence on market competition and regulation
in the energy industry. Factors such as price, cost, and rate
setting—all of which are interrelated—are critical
elements for determining the economic effects of energy regulation.
Complicating factors of market evolution and regulation uncertainty
also must be considered to understand industry challenges and
risks, and their economic implications.
This conference will provide attorneys and business executives
with a solid foundation in energy regulation, ranging from market
dynamics to current regulatory issues. Other sessions will discuss
the federal legislative arena, regulatory processes, the effect
of environmental and development regulation on the energy industry,
and the prospects for new regulatory involvement.
