Dr. Robert Marshall and Dr. Matthew Raiff to
speak on cartel price announcements at Remedies and Sanctions
Competition Policy Conference in Amsterdam
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16, 2005—Bates White, LLC, a
national economic consulting firm, announced that Dr. Robert Marshall,
The Pennsylvania State University professor of economics and Bates
White Partner, and Dr. Matthew Raiff, Bates White Partner, will
speak at the Remedies and Sanctions in Competition Policy conference
sponsored by the University of Amsterdam on February 17-18, 2005
in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The conference joins together legal
and economic scholars in competition law and economics, as well
as practitioners from competition authorities, legal counsel,
and economic consultancy firms.
Marshall and Raiff will present a paper on “Cartel Price
Announcements: The Vitamins Industry,” during a session
focused on the procollusive effect of increased cartel detection
probabilities. The paper, co-authored by Marshall, Raiff, and
Dr. Leslie Marx, explores the role of public price announcements
in supporting collusive behavior, and examines the data on public
price announcements in the vitamins industry.
The session, chaired by Dr. Joroen Hinloopen of the University
of Amsterdam, also features Peter van Bergeijk of the Erasmus
University Rotterdam and Netherlands Competition Authority, and
Peter Meulmeester of the Netherlands Competition Authority.
