Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
invites Bates White Partner Dr. David DeRamus to present at two
technical conferences
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 14, 2004—Bates White today announced
that Partner Dr. David DeRamus presented at a two technical conferences
sponsored by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on
June 9 and June 10, 2004, in Washington, D.C.
On June 9, 2004, attendees at the “Initiation of Rulemaking
Proceeding on Market-based Rates Conference” discussed initiating
a rulemaking proceeding on the adequacy of the current four-prong
analysis. With the focus on whether and how the current analysis
should be modified to assure that electric market-based rates
are just and reasonable under the Federal Power Act, DeRamus presented
on how an assessment of vertical market power should be included
in the analysis FERC uses to assess whether firms should be granted
market-based rate authority.
DeRamus’ second presentation took place on June 10, 2004,
and was part of the “Technical Conference on Acquisition
and Disposition of Merchant Generation Assets by Public Utilities.”
His presentation focused on the market power implications associated
with public utilities’ acquisition and disposition of merchant
generation assets.
