Founder Dr. Halbert White lectures at Stockholm School of Economics

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 24, 2003—Bates White announced today that the Stockholm School of Economics invited Dr. Halbert White, Founder of Bates White, to provide a lecture series on the topic entitled, “Causal, Predictive, and Explanatory Modeling in Economics: An Interpretive Guide.”

From May 19–23, Dr. White presented to more than 20 professors and graduate students in a mini-course that covered data generating processes, models, causality and prediction, predictive modeling, causal modeling, explanatory modeling, Stochastic causality, and casual inference with Stochastic causality.

“The lectures of Professor White were highly interesting and stimulating, suggesting new ways of viewing and interpreting regressions. Both the staff and the graduate students realized that many of the ideas discussed during the course would be useful for them not only in research but also in teaching,” stated Professor Timo Teräsvirta of the Department of Economic Statistics at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Dr. White is a world-renowned thought leader in the fields of econometrics, predictive modeling, and artificial neural networks. Dr. White has more than 25 years of academic and consulting experience and guides technical and intellectual advancements at Bates White. He has worked closely with legal and corporate clients on a wide variety of issues, providing both expert testimony and senior-level guidance. He is also a Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego.
