Global Competition Review names Bates White to its “Economics 21” 2015 list

January 5, 2015

For the sixth consecutive year, Bates White has been named in Global Competition Review’s (GCR) prestigious “Economics 21” (formerly “Economics 20”). Drawing on feedback from competition policy experts around the world, the “Economics 21” includes the world’s top economic consultancies with experts in antitrust and competition policy matters.

GCR cited Bates White’s active portfolio of antitrust litigation, specialization in competition matters, and growth as “a testament to its strength in the field.” GCR highlighted the firm’s role in Thermo Fisher Scientific’s acquisition of Life Technologies; Federal Trade Commission v. St. Luke’s Health System; Anderson News, LLC v. American Media, Inc.; In re Chocolate Confectionary Antitrust Litigation; and the American Express litigation over merchant contracts as key achievements over the past year.

Bates White’s European partner, E.CA Economics, was also named in GCR’s “Economics 21.” Among other antitrust work, its role in the Holcim/Lafarge, Telefónica/E-Plus, and Hutchison 3G/O2 mergers, as well as work on a rubber cartel matter and a smart card chip information exchange case, were cited as notable achievements.

The “Economics 21” selection process is facilitated by an independent survey assessing criteria including firm size, market reputation, recent work in the field, and the number of economists nominated for the International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists, GCR’s sister publication. In 2014, eight of Bates White’s competition economists were ranked in the International Who’s Who.
