Charles Bates, Chairman

Charles E. Bates is the Senior Partner and Chairman of Bates White. Dr. Bates is a recognized economic expert and authority on statistical application and computer modeling in large complex litigation matters. He specializes in methods of asbestos-liability forecasting and has more than 20 years of experience testifying on behalf of insurance companies, corporations, and financial creditors’ committees in federal bankruptcy proceedings. He has also testified on asbestos liability matters before the US Senate Judiciary Committee, United States Tax Court, California Supreme Court, and in arbitration hearings. Dr. Bates has a PhD in economics from University of Rochester. He has published numerous papers on trends and developments in the asbestos litigation environment and has spoken at national and international forums on these subjects.

Charles Mullin, Partner

Charles Mullin serves as the Bates White Managing Partner and is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Dr. Mullin is a recognized expert on statistical and econometric analysis, economic and microsimulation modeling, and insurance allocation. He provides advice and expert analysis on liability and damage issues involving mass torts, class actions, antitrust claims, insurance coverage, bankruptcies, and due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. Dr. Mullin has authored numerous expert reports and provided expert testimony in insurance matters. He has more than 20 years of experience providing statistical analysis and economic modeling in both the private and public sectors. Prior to joining Bates White, Dr. Mullin was on the faculty in the Department of Economics at Vanderbilt University and at the University of California at Los Angeles. He received his PhD in economics from University of Chicago.

Page Imperial, Chief Operating Officer

Page Imperial is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and has overall responsibility for the daily operations of Bates White. Ms. Imperial provides direction for both the strategy and execution of programs and initiatives to enhance the firm’s operations and growth. She has more than 20 years of experience with deep expertise in strategic, operational, and financial planning; management and business development; sales optimization; relationship management; and building and leading cross-functional teams. Prior to joining Bates White, Ms. Imperial was Director of Account Management for Towers Watson’s DC Consulting Practice where she was responsible for financial performance, client relationship management, and the development and implementation of revenue-generating strategies. Ms. Imperial also served in multiple positions in Human Resources at KPMG. She received her BA from University of Missouri.

David DeRamus, Partner

David DeRamus is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. He specializes in economic and financial analysis, quantitative modeling, antitrust analysis, pricing analysis, damages analysis, and valuation. Dr. DeRamus has served as both a testifying and consulting expert in a wide range of cases, including antitrust cases, energy-related dispute proceedings before federal and state regulatory commissions, rule-making proceedings, market design issues, class certification proceedings, market manipulation cases, applications for market-based rate authority, mergers and acquisitions, and other commercial litigation. Dr. DeRamus received a PhD in economics from University of Massachusetts.

Eric Gaier, Partner

Eric Gaier serves as the Bates White Business Development Partner and is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Dr. Gaier has significant experience in the application of economic and statistical analysis to antitrust, False Claims Act (FCA), ERISA, California Unfair Competition Law (UCL), and other legal frameworks. He has testified and consulted for government, law firm, and corporate clients across a variety of industries including health insurance, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, retail sales, agriculture, technology, commercial aviation, aerospace manufacturing, and defense procurement. Dr. Gaier holds a PhD in economics from Duke University.

Adrienne Gardner, Director

Adrienne Gardner is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and is responsible for a variety of special projects and initiatives. Ms. Gardner has more than 20 years of experience in the professional services industry. She is highly skilled in office space design, commercial real estate planning, lease negotiation, and facilities management. Prior to joining Bates White, Ms. Gardner was with KPMG and A.T. Kearney. She received her BA from East Carolina University.

Stephanie Giorgis, Chief Marketing Officer

Stephanie Giorgis is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and has overall responsibility for the firm’s marketing and business development activities. Since the firm’s inception, she has served as a facilitator and key resource for developing strategies that have helped the firm achieve substantial growth. Ms. Giorgis oversees the creation and implementation of the firm’s go-to-market strategy, including management of the firm brand and diversification of the business mix. Ms. Giorgis has more than 30 years of experience in business strategy, business development and account planning, marketing, and communications. She was previously the Director of Marketing and Business Development for Strategic Services at A.T. Kearney and held several senior marketing positions at KPMG. Ms. Giorgis holds an MBA from the George Washington University.

Michelle Planty, Vice President of Human Resources

Michelle Planty leads Bates White’s Human Resources Department and is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Ms. Planty has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of human resources. She oversees Bates White’s recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, and employee/organizational development. Prior to joining Bates White, Ms. Planty held leadership positions at Dickstein Shapiro LLP and Nixon Peabody LLP. She holds an MA from the George Washington University. 

Kevin O’Reagan, Chief Information Officer

Kevin O’Reagan serves on the firm’s Management Committee and is responsible for strategic leadership of the firm’s technology functions. In this capacity, he guides and oversees development and implementation of the Bates White technology vision, ensuring alignment with the business objectives of the firm. Mr. O’Reagan has more than 30 years of information technology leadership experience. Prior to joining Bates White, Mr. O’Reagan served as Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Strayer Education. He also held a number of technology management positions for Thomson Reuters, Thomson Technology Consulting, The Prudential Mortgage Corporation, and Accenture. Mr. O’Reagan holds an MS in Management and Information Technology from Johns Hopkins University.

Joseph Stupak, Chief Financial Officer

Joseph Stupak is a member of the firm’s Management Committee and is responsible for strategic leadership of the firm’s finance and accounting functions including financial planning, analysis and reporting, and risk management. Mr. Stupak has more than 25 years of experience covering all aspects of finance management, oversight and controls, and is highly experienced at building and leading finance teams and integrating planning and reporting functions between business units. Prior to joining Bates White, Mr. Stupak spent 21 years with Booz Allen Hamilton, where he held numerous finance and leadership positions. He played an instrumental role in guiding the firm's financial transition from a private partnership to a public company following the company's split in 2008. Mr. Stupak also spent eight years in finance management with IBM. He received his BS from The Pennsylvania State University.

Jodi Trulove, General Counsel

Jodi Trulove is a member of the firm’s Management Committee, and has twenty years of experience as a law firm litigator and in-house counsel. Prior to joining Bates White, Ms. Trulove was with Dickstein Shapiro where she was a partner in the firm’s antitrust practice, litigating complex matters in an array of industries. Ms. Trulove has extensive experience developing evidence of economic damages, working with economic experts in connection with their analysis, preparing them for and defending them in expert depositions, and managing Daubert issues. She holds a JD from Georgetown University and is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
